County moves on new jail plan
The Koochiching County Board Tuesday reiterated its plan to build a new jail facility. The board reaffirmed a resolution to build a 40 bed, approximately 22,700 feet jail located at the existing county government service site location.
Levels follow up
The International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board Water Levels Committee will host a follow-up virtual information session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11.
Closure vote prompts new land idea
With a vote March 8 to begin the process to close the Indus School, a local effort known as “Save Our School” has gathered strength. Citing an operating loss, declining enrollment and cost savings to the district, the South Koochiching-Rainy River School Board, with schools in Indus and Northome, voted to begin the process to close the Indus School.
Retirement spurs L-BF transportation plan
Reinke Bus Company intends to retire at the end of its contract with the Littlefork-Big Falls School District. L-BF officials said they were notified by owners Brian and Lisa Reinke of their intent to retire after 10 years of services to the district.
Spring flood risk update
The potential for spring flooding across the northland is above normal, reports the National Weather Service last week. Conditions in the Rainy River Basin are similar to last year, when record flooding damaged roads and other public and private infrastructure.

Grover recalls local cyberattack
The International Falls school district caught a cyber-attack in September before the extortionists were able to encrypt private information from the school’s systems. The district lost one day of school Sept 12 when Superintendent Kevin Grover shut down the district, canceled school, and reported the district, along with its third-party incident response team, was investigating a potential cyber incident relating to its computer systems.
