Board starts new year

Two new faces were on one side of the Koochiching County Board table Tuesday morning. District 1 County Commissioner Destry Hell and District 2 Commissioner Ricky Roche were sworn into office by Koochiching County District Court Administrator Patti Bolstad, who also gave the oath of office to county officers reelected to their positions in November, including Tom West, county auditor/treasurer; county Attorney Jeff Naglosky, Sheriff Perryn Hedlund, and Recorder Lindsay Frank.

Bronco hockey: 75 years

When asked what International Falls is known for, many people will likely respond with one word: Hockey Borderland will celebrate 75 years of the Bronco hockey program Jan. 13 during the home game in International Falls. In addition, alumni are invited to meet at the Border Bar Jan. 14 to reminisce.

‘Legacy’ grants support history projects

Ranier and the Ernest Oberholtzer Foundation are among the newest recipients of 35 Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Small Grants, totaling $304,444 in 19 counties. The Minnesota Historical Society awards the small grants, of $10,000 and less, quarterly to help nonprofits, educational organizations, government units and federally recognized tribes to preserve and share Minnesota history.

Signing of deal: ‘early Christmas gift’

It’s hard not to feel some excitement when talking to Felix Asemota about what could be called his baby: the planned I-Falls Multimodal Transportation & Foreign Trade Zone Logistic Facility.
