Residents may consider levies

Local governments are conducting hearings to allow residents to comment on the proposed 2023 levy and budgets, on which property taxes paid in 2023 are based. For 2023, preliminary property taxes statewide will increase by a maximum of $697.7 million, a 6-percent increase.

The Mother Pluckers - Darcy Sullivan, RaeAnn Conat, Kari Oustad Miggins and Jennifer Baker – helped Saturday to kick off The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign at Super One Grocery. Manning the red kettle was Bev Mayfield, local Salvation Army envoy, and Lori Herrly, social services and Angel Tree program coordinator for the local Salvation Army. West: Election ran smoothly

Koochiching County Auditor/Treasurer said he and his time are happy with last week’s general election process. “Overall, things went really well,” he said, providing the following unofficial details: • Total Registered Voters - 7,701 • Total Registered Voting - 5,288 • Koochiching Turnout - 68.7 percent • Mail ballot registered – 2,067 • Total mail voting – 1,541 • Koochiching mail turnout – 74.6 percent • In-person registered – 5,634 • In-person/absentee voting – 3,747 • Koochiching in-person precincts – 66.5 percent Election results came early for Koochiching, likely because much of the voting happens before election day, he said.
