Task force reports activities

The Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force recently reported it has removed from the streets nearly 2 pounds of heroin or fentanyl with a street value of $147,000 in the third quarter of 2022. International Falls and Koochiching County are a part of the task force collaboration with Beltrami County, Bemidji, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Cass County, Hubbard County, Leech Lake Reservation, Mahnomen County, Park Rapids, and the White Earth Reservation.

KEDA hears updates

Area officials reported activities when they met Thursday as the Koochiching Economic Development Authority Board Monday. A part of the discussion included an update on a proposal by Onesimus Management Group, Minneapolis to develop the multi-modal site, southeast of Ranier, now owned by the International Falls Economic Development Authority.

Annual orange delivery

Cindy and Kevin Kennedy delivered pumpkins Tuesday morning to first graders at Falls Elementary, carrying on a tradition that started with Kevin’s dad, Harvey Kennedy, who made the annual delivery for 20 years.

Jail plan includes LOW inmates

LBeager@cherryroad.com A proposed contract with Lake of the Woods County for five beds in Koochiching County’s planned new jail got the OK from the county board Tuesday. The board approved language in a contract that guarantees Lake of the Woods County five beds in the planned 40-bed Koochiching County jail.

Grant to add security

Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless has granted Servants of Shelter of Koochiching County with $7,765 to help create a secure, fair, and safe housing community in its shelter. The grant is presented at a time when people throughout Minnesota are experiencing hardships, Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless Foundation said in a statement.
