Rotary presents….

At the Oct. 12 Rotary Club of International Falls meeting, Rotarian Jenell Feller hosted Ariana Daniel, executive director of Servants of Shelter. She shared updates on the community- based program committed to upholding the dignity of people experiencing homelessness. They achieve this by providing temporary shelter, guidance, and access to community resources. Rotarian Kim Usery hosted speaker Dr. Roberta Zimmerman, medical laboratory director, at Rainy Lake Medical Center at the Rotary Club of International Falls weekly meeting Oct. 5. Zimmerman has been an anatomical and clinical pathologist since 1986. For more than 20 years, she has worked in northern Minnesota, and she spoke of some of the different lessons learned from her experiences. She also highlighted some of the overlooked benefits of autopsies and the people that perform them.

Program helps landowners with buckthorn

Buckthorn is a threat to Minnesota forests and the animals that live there. Local folks got an education and some help controlling the nuisance weed last week, when a crew of Minnesota Conservation Corps members, paid through a Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Cooperative Weed Management Area grant and with help from the city of Ranier, came in to physically remove and treat the plant in an area of Ranier.

RABC resumed

The Canada Border Services Agency reports it has resumed the Remote Area Border Crossing, or RABC, program, which is available in parts of northwestern Ontario and southeastern Manitoba. This decision is part of a phased approach to gradually resume CBSA services still affected by the temporary measures put in place as a result of COVID-19.
