The idea of living life off the land may be appealing to many, and only truly doable by a few, but a book written by someone who did it shows there’s more to it than most think. Bill Knapp, 69, wrote “A Wilderness Chronicle: One Man’s Dream – A true story of adventure, survival and redemption,” about what he calls a unique time of his life, living in the wilderness on Hale Bay, Rainy Lake, Ontario, at age 23.

Friday, May 6 15 years ago The Rainy River Community College softball team won the Minnesota Community College State Softball Tournament today hosted by Central Lakes Community College in Brainerd. The Voyageurs, coached by Dieter Humbert, went 5-0 to capture the first softball state title in the school’s history.
Seventy-eight students will take part in the last Rainy River Community College commencement ceremony, before the school becomes Minnesota North College – Rainy River Campus. The 1 p.m.
Rainy Lake Vacation Campground LLC will be allowed to expand, following the Koochiching County Board’s amendment of recommendations from its Planning and Zoning Commission. The board agreed to provide a conditional use permit based on the amended request from the owners, Cole and Kari Hraban, that allow 11 RV sites on the north parcel and two sites on the south for a total of 43 RV sites.
Open Range Concerts – up north will present four acoustic music concerts this season. Each of the concerts begin at 7 p.m.
The International Falls School Board heard reports about the end of the school year, and work toward summer school, when it met April 18. Graduation is set for 3 p.m.
