Local support of UWNEMN will benefit the following agencies and programs in Koochiching and Lake of the Woods Counties this year: Backus Community Center, Baudette Public Library’s summer reading program, Buddy Backpacks, Comforts of Home, Falls Hunger Coalition, Friends Against Abuse, Imagination Library, International Falls Public Library’s summer reading program, Koochiching Aging Options, Lake of the Woods Food Shelf, Salvation Army International Falls, Smiles United, and United for Veterans.

• Hwy 53 (SP 8821-353) Location: From Duluth to International Falls in St. Louis and Koochiching counties. Description: Sign replacement, September to November 2022, May to August 2023. Cost: $3.6 million. Impact: Shoulder closures.

The Falls Public Library provided city officials recently with a report about its use in 2021. The following are just a few of the statistics in the report: More than 100 – The number of programs hosted by the library.

A proposal to annex the Falls International Airport property by the city of International Falls has received opposition from adjacent property owners. Steve Earley and Bob Ewald, adjacent landowners, voiced concern in late March about the city’s proposal at the Koochiching County Board and the International Falls-Koochiching County Airport Commission, the Falls International Airport’s joint powers governing board.

The Koochiching Economic Development Authority Board, the county’s lead economic development agency, heard updates Monday on a number proposed and planned projects throughout the communities in represents.
