Forest Hill Cemetery Association awarded grant for landscaping

The Forest Hill Cemetery Association was among several local initiatives awarded $5,000 grants at a recent Koochiching Community Development Association Board meeting. Funding will support a tree-planting program this spring and summer and the development of a sustainable landscaping, beautification and maintenance plan for the cemetery, reports Ward Merrill, president of the Forest Hill Cemetery Association.

2022 derby day

Mother Nature smiled on Rainy Lake Saturday afternoon during the Rainy Lake Sportfishing Club’s annual derby. With a respite from the frigid temperatures, angling to benefit the Rainy Lake resources drew many to the ice for fishing, fun, food and friends. RLSC leaders report 50 perch, 29 walleye, 7 northern and 32 white fish or tullibee brought to the derby circle.

Chamber to dissolve

The International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will close April 30, following a vote of the membership Tuesday. Membership present, or by proxy, voted in favor of the resolution to cease operations of the International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, by a vote of 17 for and 12 against, chamber president Tricia Heibel told chamber members in an email.

Falls School District unmasks

Students at International Falls public schools are no longer required to wear face masks inside district buildings. The Falls School Board Monday supported its administrative team’s recommendation to immediately end its face mask mandate for school buildings, in place since the start of the school year, based on current quarantine rates, case rates, and county data.
