Almost derby time

Rainy Lake’s got plenty of ice as preparations begin for the 37th annual Ice Fishing Derby, hosted by the Rainy Lake Sportfishing Club and sponsored by the International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, 1-4 p.m. Feb. 26. Grand prize of the derby raffle is $5,000; second is $2,000 and third is $1,000. Derby headquarters will again be in the big blue fish house for seniors, recently renamed the Ron Jean Memorial Senior Fish House, in recognition of the many years of leadership and service Jean gave to the community, club and resource. Jean died in 2019. Seniors can sign up for time at the fish house at Rainy Lake One Stop. Don’t forget the International Voyageurs Snowmobile Club’s Radar Run Against Cancer at the Thunderbird Lodge from 11:30-3 p.m. Saturday. STAFF AND CONTRIBUTED PHOTOS
