Welcome May! I am so excited for this month. The weather is warmer, but not hot yet and usually not too much precipitation. It is also when I can really begin to read on our porch. It is enclosed and faces south, so it is usually a wonderful spot to bask in the sun and read.

Check out our traveling exhibit from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Pollinators, “Bee Aware” emphasizes the importance of pollinators in our daily lives, their challenges to survival, and ways we can help them. Several interactive components provide fun opportunities to explore pollinators. It will be in the library lobby until May 20. A number of books and movies are also available to borrow about pollinators and their importance or ways to help pollinators.

It is Earth Day! Take time to appreciate the place you live. Get outside for a walk, a bike ride or start some seeds indoors to plant outside later.

It is mid-April, the weather has been slowly warming allowing the most snow we have gotten in years to slowly melt. While I might be more than ready for things to start growing, I do appreciate the slow melt for allowing water to soak into the ground and not puddle quite as much. Tax season is just about over (I’ve submitted mine and hope you have gotten yours in as well) and it is time to look forward to warm, sunny days.

The Arrowhead Library System will provide Take & Write Poetry Workbook Kits to member public libraries. Celebrate National Poetry Month with the Poet’s Workbook designed by COMPAS Teaching Artist and Minnesota Poet May Lee-Yang! Inside your booklet, there are several poetry writing exercises designed specifically for new poets. Each writing exercise will include an example poem, some directions on how you can write your own poem, and space to write! This program, sponsored by Arrowhead Library System, was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

No fooling! It is a very good idea to read aloud to children every single day! Reading aloud to children helps their brains develop and helps them develop the skills needed to be prepared when they enter school. Reading aloud doesn’t have to take much time and doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are some specific guidelines for each of the first five years of a child’s life.

We have reached the latter part of March and the weather is finally warming. I am so ready even for mud.

March may come in like a lion, so I definitely expect it to go out like a lamb. I am ready for spring! I am ready to wear fewer clothes and sit outside. In the meantime, I guess I will continue reading.

March starts next week! How did that happen? I certainly hope warmer weather is on the way. I just recently finished The Ice House by Monica Sherwood about a couple of kids dealing with an extremely long winter of snow and ice and stuck in their apartment building. It is making me wish for spring weather.
