We grieve with the Borderland community over the decision by the ISD 363 School Board last week to close the Indus School July 1. While we understand the facts and figures behind the recommendation for closure, we’d hoped the board would have taken the hearing judge’s idea that they could take action to close the school at a time of their discretion and voted for July 1, 2024.

We can’t stress enough that the International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce has made good decisions in selecting Lee Grim as Citizen of the Year, Koochiching County Historical Society as Small Business of the Year and Hardee’s as Large Business of the Year.
With a high risk for spring flooding again this year, we urge property owners to do what they can now to prepare. The National Weather Service is reminding people to shovel around their home, move valuables to higher locations and clear snow from storm drains.
So much can be accomplished when we understand and empathize with one another; it helps people – including the those we elect to represent us – accomplish their goals. Without that empathy, and perhaps a face-toface discussion, misconceptions, misunderstandings, and misinformation can help form decisions, whether that be about people, issues or decisions.
