Less than 250 pages
I hope all you readers are still making progress on your 2025 reading challenge to read 25 books following 25 different prompts. And if not, today is a great day to start or return to the challenge. And even if you don’t want to participate in the challenge, we hope you will visit the library and borrow a book. Reading can be a very important part of life and help us all relax, know more, become more empathetic and even sleep better. Another reason for adults to read is to show children in their life that reading can be an activity of choice and that it is one of the many ways we learn throughout our entire lives. Grab a book today and let a child see you reading. If you do most of your reading digitally these days, show your children the screen so they see you are reading.
Summer reads for kids
The weather is warming, spring sports have started and it is time to think about spring reading. What do you want to read this season? Are you looking for quick, light-hearted reads or does the warming weather make you want to tackle something substantial and meaty? I’ve had years with both scenarios. I’m still trying to figure out what I want to read, while I read what I need to, to talk to students next month about summer reading. So, I am currently focused on reading titles for juveniles that I think would make good summer reading options.
Riding downtown to the cowboys
The family took the subway downtown to a dance performance as a favor to the one dance fan in our midst and she thanked us for it afterward. “Thank you for indulging me, I really loved this,” she said. People ought to do that more often. Me, for one. My wife and daughter leave the apartment for hours, leaving me to work in silence. It seems awkward to say, “Thank you for going away,” so I don’t.
Load extender
Question: Are trailer hitch load extenders legal? Occasionally I haul some lumber that sticks out beyond my tailgate and would like to know if I can use this.
Gold City No. 5
Excitement over gold in this region, crowed Editor Fred Bowman in a late June of 1894 issue of The Rainy Lake Journal. He added that the Rainy Lake City mine is capitalized for $300,000 but a half-million would not buy it. July 4th was to be the unveiling of the Stamp Mill, and it was said that it was awaited with great anticipation and that the mine superintendent stated that it will start on Independence Day without fail and will be a feature of their celebration.
