It’s why Marko Bajzer on this Earth: Interpreting the sounds of Voyageurs National Park, and other parks, in art.“I don’t know that there is anyone that’s as obsessed with the national parks as I am and has as much musical training as I do,” the multi-faceted artist said, with Rainy Lake as the background.The aim is to create a work of music that lives as long as its inspiration, he said.Voyageurs National Park is his fourth residency and the art he creates about it will be a part of a larger work on national parks.Minnesota’s only national park marks a return to his Minnesota roots, as he was born and raised in Rochester.While he played in the woods in his youth, he said he didn’t have the opportunity to get involved in outdoors activities.

Outdoors funding amendment on ballot

Did you know that November’s ballot will carry a question about whether to renew dedicating state lottery funds for the great outdoors?“Minnesotans For Our Great Outdoors” kicked off its campaign to educate voters about the upcoming constitutional amendment to celebrate the past success of lottery funding and hear from members of the diverse coalition of support.More than 30 years ago, Minnesotans first voted to dedicate a portion of state lottery proceeds to conservation.

Deer hunters asked to share observations

With archery deer season opening Saturday, now is an ideal time for hunters to start using the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ online log for deer and other wildlife sightings.“We’re asking deer hunters to share their observations of wildlife to help broaden our knowledge about deer and other wildlife species,” said Eric Michel, Minnesota DNR ungulate research scientist.
