Bemidji: CWD suspected in wild deer

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources received preliminary test results indicating the first suspected case of chronic wasting disease in a wild white-tailed deer in the Bemidji area. The adult male was harvested opening weekend of the firearms season about 10 miles south of Bemidji in deer permit area 184.

October: Voyageurs National Park check-in

Through the month of October, the park works on pulling markers, disconnecting floating docks at the facilities, and pulling our vessels in preparation for the upcoming winter season. It’s also a time when we start reviewing our winter operations plan, conducting refresher training for ice checking for trails and roads, and cold-water rescue procedures. Administratively, we are wrapping up performance plans for the Fiscal Year 2022 period (10/2021 - 9/2022) and preparing for our FY 2023 performance and work plans. As of the writing of this email the federal government has not yet passed a budget for FY 23 but has passed a continuing resolution that will take us through mid-December.

CO Reports

Nov. 7 CO Darrin Kittelson (International Falls #1) reports opening weekend of deer season was relatively quiet and slow in the north woods with few deer seen harvested. Enforcement action was taken for hunting over bait, no license in personal possession, recreational feeding deer in a prohibited county, and transporting loaded firearm. Animal complaints were also handled throughout the week.
