The International Falls volleyball team improved to 9-1 on the season with a three-set sweep of Rock Ridge Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Falls High Gym. The first set was all Broncos as they finished the set with 10 straight points while Lola Valenzuela was serving. Lola, who finished the match with five aces says the team thought they had a chance to have a 9-1 record after 10 matches. The next two sets were much more competitive as the Falls had to persevere in the second set 25-23 and won the third 25-19. Gracie Swenson led the Broncos with 13 kills and 2 blocks. Madison Wille had 10 kills and 2 aces while Kale Taylor had 9 set assists and 2 aces. The Falls JV team lost in 3 sets 13-25, 2520, and 15-10. The C-Team came back to win 18-25, 2523, and 15-8.
The Bronco girls swimming and diving team participated in the Hibbing Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 17. The Falls competed against seven of the other 10 teams in Section 7A and finished in fifth place as a team with a score of 172. Grand Rapids won the meet with 520 points followed by Rock Ridge, Mesabi East, and Hibbing. Individually for the Broncos:
The Minnesota North College Rainy River baseball team played a doubleheader scrimmage Sept. 14 at Scheela Field against Vermilion. The two teams split the games and coach Josh Koenig says it’s good to play some ball in the fall and see what the team has. The Voyageur baseball team will play against their alumni on Saturday, Sept 24.
