The International Falls Bronco boys and girls cross-country teams earned the Gold Level Academic Awards.The recognition is selected by the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association.The boys team had an average total GPA of 3.97 and the girls team had a 3.81.Compiled by KGHS/KSDM Radio.

Academic recognition

The Bronco girls swimming and diving team has been recognized by the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association with the silver academic award for the past season, with the team’s combined 3.46 grade point average.“We had a great season, and the future of the Bronco girls swim/dive team is looking bright,” said Coach JJ McBride.

Bronco hockey

The International Falls Bronco girls hockey team started the season at home with a pair of losses last Friday and Saturday.Friday’s game against Dryden had two scoreless periods from both teams, but the Eagles found the net twice in the third period and get the 0-2 victory over the home team Broncos.Saturday the team played Thief River Falls at Bronco Arena where the visiting Prowlers were led by Lila Dalager’s five goals and an assist in a 0-9 defeat of International Falls.Bronco senior goalie Mara Pelland had 55 saves.The boys team officially opens its season at 6 p.m.

Juen recognized

Littlefork-Big Falls Viking football player Dominick Juen has been named to the 2024 Individual Academic Allstate Football Team.The recognition by the Minnesota State Football Coaches Association recognizes players with outstanding football ability plus academic excellence.Juen, a senior lineman, was selected for the 9-man team.

Voyageur Korpi recognized

Minnesota North College Rainy River Voyageur volleyball player Karsen Korpi has been selected for the first ever MCAC All-Sportsmanship Team.The MCAC All-Sportsmanship Team is a new honor the conference began this year, and members are selected by the head coaches of each athletic team.
