The 2024 Rainy Lake North Stars Amateur Baseball Team concluded its season this past weekend in Roseau at Gilbertson Field as they were defeated by the Roseau Royals in the Northwest Border Conference Playoffs. The North Stars played a grueling 18 game inaugural season schedule facing mostly Class B teams that included the Hibbing Miners, Bemidji Blue Ox, Roseau Royals, Bemidji Bucks, Warroad Muskies, Albertville Anglers, Detroit Lakes Ligers and Becker Bandits. The young North Stars competed with determination and perseverance and made nice strides with consistent improvement throughout the season. This was the first time since 1962 that International Falls has fielded an amateur baseball team when it last featured the International Falls Mando’s.Minnesota leads the nation in amateur baseball team popularity with over 250 teams represented throughout the state. In 2025, the Minnesota Baseball Association will realign the conferences to create more parity and teams consisting of mostly All Star recruited players will move up to Class B or A.This will allow the true class C teams such as the North Stars which depend on local and area players to be aligned with teams of a similar background. The 2024 Rainy Lake North Stars were a proud addition to our greater International Falls area community and presented young athletes in our community and area with a great opportunity to continue to play America’s favorite game and pastime, Baseball.
