D-Day event

D-Day marks the June 6, 1944, invasion of the beaches at Normandy, France, by Allied troops during World War II which began the campaign to free Nazi-occupied Europe.

Thursday, June 6, is the 80th anniversary of D-Day, and will be commemorated at 1 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948, dining room, at 1416 3rd Ave., International Falls.

The event will remember and honor those who were there on D-Day, including several local men, and the role they played in the war. A short program will be followed by refreshments.
