Labor Day Color 5K returns
STAFF REPORT
A family-fun event will return to Smokey Bear Park on Labor Day, and participants should get ready to get colorful.
The Rainy Lake Medical Center Foundation will host the second annual Color 5k to promote health and wellness and support new technology, patient services and more at Rainy Lake Medical Center.
To secure a race t-shirt before the race, participants must register by Aug. 9. The cost is $30 for anyone over age 13 and $15 for children ages 6-12. Children ages 5 and under are free but will not receive a race shirt. Runners and walkers may also register the day of the event.
“We are thrilled to unite our community for the annual Color 5k,” said Mickie Olson, RLMC director of marketing and foundation. “This is one of our favorite events and serves as the perfect sendoff of summer.”
The Color 5K is a five-kilometer, untimed event. At different points throughout the route, runners or walkers are doused from head to toe in a different colored powder. Participants wear white at the starting line and finish the race covered in color. The color powder is safe for all ages and made with 100 percent food-grade cornstarch, baking soda, and food and cosmetic dyes.
The fun run beings at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, with registration starting one hour prior at Smokey Bear Park.
Participants can register online at rainylakemedical.com/color5k. If your business or organization is interested Color 5k sponsorship opportunities, reach out to Olson at mmolson@rainylakemedical.com.
