Marilyn Larson

Marilyn Larson, 91, a longtime International Falls resident, died on Nov. 23 in Champlin, Minn.                                      .

Marilyn was born in 1930 in Eveleth and grew up in Makinen. She attended high school in Cotton and earned a teaching degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She taught elementary school in Bloomington and Bemidji.

In June of 1953, Marilyn married Jim Larson and they moved to International Falls where they both were teachers. Later in life, she worked as a guide at the Grand Mound and receptionist at Voyageurs National Park.

Marilyn’s interests included sewing, reading, gardening, politics, cooking and baking for her family. A master quilter, she designed a number of original works. She enjoyed spending summers at her Rainy Lake cabin on North Jackfish Bay and was a devoted Minnesota Twins fan. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Aquilo League, Northern Lights Quilters Guild and Lady Elks.

Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, James, her parents William and Wella Kangas, and her brother, William (Billy) Kangas. She is survived by her children: Brent Larson (Sylvia Wier), Valerie Larson (Bob Fichuk),  Jill Carty (Bruce Carty), Julie Bowman (Ric Bowman) and sister-in-law Evonne Kangas, and three grandchildren, Dexter Fichuk  (Laura Mann), Maisie Fichuk, and Landon Carty.

A celebration of life will be held by the family at a future date.
