Neil DeLack, 80, of Littlefork, MN passed away of chronic leukemia relapse on Friday, October 22nd, 2021 at Rainy Lake Medical Center.
Neil was born on July 6th, 1941 to Glen and Ruth (Bloomquist) DeLack in Littlefork, MN.
He graduated from Littlefork-Big Falls High School in 1959. During high school, he worked for Hans Promersberger. After graduation he went to work for a well drilling company.
He was united in marriage to Laurel Hunter on December 7th, 1963. Together they had 3 children, Tracy, Scott, and Stephanie.
He was later employed by The Koochiching County Land Department in the Littlefork office. He started logging on nights and weekends which led to the beginning of DeLack Logging in 1969. He served many years on the board for the Timber Producers Association. Upon retiring from DeLack Logging, the ownership transferred to his son Scott and grandson Taylor, who currently run the business.
The community was very important to him. He served as a volunteer firefighter, as a charter member for the Littlefork Lions Club, and as a member of the Littlefork Lutheran Church. Being a Littlefork-Big Falls Vikings fan, he never missed a game while his grandchildren were on the court or field.
As a family man his house and cabin were always buzzing with family and friends. It was these times that he so treasured. He loved spending time in the woods, playing cards, watching the Twins and Minnesota Vikings. A special highlight was an annual Canadian Goose hunting trip that started with his father and continued with his son and grandson. He especially loved to fish and spend time at his cabin in Red Gut Bay. He loved cooking a big pancake breakfast and Rainy Lake Walleye supper. The more people in the cabin the better. If he wasn’t out fishing, you could find him sitting on the porch with the best view of the lake.
Neil is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Ruth DeLack, In-laws John and Inga Hunter, Infant daughter Tracy, brother Tom DeLack, sister and brother-in-law Linda (Hunter) and Roger Bradburn.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laurel (Nubby), son, Scott (Leah) DeLack, daughter, Stephanie DeLack. Grandchildren, Paige (Tom) Junker, and Taylor DeLack. Great-grandaughters and the loves of his life Lynde and Aili Junker. Sisters, Beth DeLack and Diane Timmer. Sister-in-law Olive (Robert) Paul, and his loyal golden retriever Fletcher. Along with numerous nieces and nephews. He had many friends who held a special place in his heart.
Private graveside services will be held for immediate family at Oakley Cemetery, Littlefork.
