Joseph (Jody) Schulz

Joseph (Jody) Schulz, 78, passed away December 26, 2021, at the Littlefork Care Center.. He was born in the Littlefork Hospital July 13, 1943 to Bernie and Frances (Ludwig) Schulz.

He attended St. Thomas School through 8th grade. Then on to Backus, Old Falls High and he was in the first class to graduate from the new Falls High School in 1962.

Jody began his working life for his dad at Schulz’s Bakery until its closing in 1966. From there he moved on to Piggly Wiggly bakery as a baker. Then on to Border Bar and the Moose Club as bar manager. Then in 1974 Jody and his brother, Tom Schulz, along with their wives Janet and Janis, decided to build their own bar, Schulz’s Bar and Steakhouse. With the economy in 1980 the brothers decided to get out and sold their business.

Jody moved on to manage the Holiday Inn in International Falls (a job he really enjoyed). As his career blossomed, he moved on to oversee the finishing and opening of the new Holiday Inn of Appleton, Wisconsin. From Appleton, Wisconsin the company moved him to the Three Appletree Square Holiday Inn in Minneapolis, MN, and one more move to manage another opening of a Crowne Plaza Hotel in Elgin, IL.

In 2003 he retired and he and his wife moved back to International Falls.

Jody was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Frances (Ludwig) Schulz, his brother Bernard (Sonny), and granddaughter Ciera, his in-laws, Lester and Lillian Nordlum.

He is survived by his wife Janet and his three sons, Jeffrey (Mary) Schulz, Coon Rapids, MN, Jay (Darcie) Schulz, International Falls, Jon (Gretchen) Schulz, Denver, CO, he is also survived by his six grandchildren, granddaughter Samantha (Brad) Johnson, Alex, Jackson, Cameron, Boden Schulz and granddaughter Justina Diwi and great-grandson Michael Diwi. He is also survived by his brother Tom Schulz, International Falls, and sister Betty Dalton, Victoria British Columbia, Canada. Jody is also survived by brother-in-law Roger Nordlum (Scoots Ysen), sisters-in-law Betty Gerlach (Bob Baron) and Marilyn Nordlum, numerous nieces and nephews.

Jody was a great guy and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life for Jody will be held at a later date.

We would like to thank the Hospice Care ladies for the time spent making Jody comfortable. A special thank you to you Pat, who would sit with Jody and say the Rosary with him. Thank you all so much.
