Dorlyn Louis Desens, 88, of International Falls, Minnesota, died on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin.
Dorlyn was born Jan 28, 1933 in Wright County MN at 1:20 am. (He’s been an early riser ever since!) He was the first of four children born to Louis and Eunice (Crawford) Desens. He was baptized at Crawford Lake Church Buffalo, MN.
He moved to Loman, Minnesota in 1938, and International Falls in 1941 when his father got a job in the kraft mill.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He graduated high school in 1951. He worked at Sportsmen’s Service and also cut and hauled pulp wood for Rueben & Willard Crawford. He also joined the USAF in March 1953 serving in Texas, California, and Tokyo International Airport Japan. He served during the Korean War and was also a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Dorlyn met Marlys Ann Plasky in January 1957 and they were married September 27, 1958. He worked for Debenedet Fuel & Heating. In December 1958 he started working for Anchor Gas Company and in December 1970 he started work for Koochiching County Courthouse until his retirement.
Dorlyn was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Eunice; stepfather, Jewel Ray Proctor; wife, Marlys; brother, Glenn; sister, Janice; brother-in-law, Robert Keute; and son-in-law, Jerry Westhoff.
He is survived by sister, Carole Keute; sister-in-law, Alice Desens; daughters; Terri (Mark) Thorsvik, Neena Desens, and Krista Westhoff; son, Mark Desens; grandchildren, William Vance, Sara (Pete) Benedix, James (Sheena) Vance, RL (Gabby) Durham, Rasmus (Amber) Woodbridge, Amaurea Woodbridge, Nolan Westhoff, and Lynsi Westhoff; great-grandchildren Dawsyn and Kalvan Benedix, Payton Vance, Charli Vance, and Daxton and Kalina Durham; special extra great-grands, Maci Jo Silvers, Paige Linhoff, and Corbin Rasmussen; and many extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in International Falls with a flag presentation to follow.
Interment for Dorlyn and Marlys will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in International Falls.
