James Franklin Roberts, 86, of International Falls, Minnesota, died on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Rainy Lake Medical Center, as the result of natural causes.

He was born in Rochester, MN but grew up in Kennebec, SD.

James served in the United States Army from 1974 to 1976.

He attended South Dakota State University where he obtained his Bachelor and Master’s degrees. He also attended the University of Minnesota.

He served as Superintendent of Schools in Brewster, Adams, McIntosh, and International Falls. He served International Falls for nineteen years which was longer than any other superintendent in the school district’s history. He also served as mathematics teacher, assistant principal, principal and athletic coach at several other schools.

He is survived by his three children, Burton (Diana) of Woodbury, Wayne (Ann) of Eveleth, and Joe (Chantill) of Leesburg, VA; fourteen grandchildren; and sister, Mary Kreager.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; sisters, Vera, Mavis, Susan, Judy, Sharon; brothers, John, and Lawrence.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior.
