Greta Marie Hemstad, age 83, of International Falls, passed away in her home on June 19, 2022.

Greta was born on December 31, 1938 in Montevideo, Minnesota. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1956 and received her nursing degree from Northwestern Hospital in 1960. Greta worked as a Registered Nurse in hospital settings and with the WIC program in International Falls.

For many years, they spent their summers at their cabin and in 1999, built their retirement home on Rainy Lake. In their early retirement years, they wintered in Lake Havasu, AZ where they had the time of their lives with good friends. Greta enjoyed traveling, reading, playing in bridge clubs, and socializing with her amazing and supportive friends. Additionally, she loved keeping track of her six grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments. Greta battled Multiple Sclerosis for over forty years and managed to remain positive and pragmatic through it all. She was a gracious woman with a contagious laugh. No one could give a better hug.

Greta is survived by her husband Peter, son, Chris (Amber) Hemstad and grandchildren Trygg, Isabelle, Eve, and Ila of International Falls, MN; son, Nat Hemstad (Dana Wagner) and grandchildren Alice and Miles Wagner-Hemstad of St. Paul, MN.
