Sharon Jean (Walls) Misner, 77, of International Falls, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Rainy Lake Medical Center.
She was born in International Falls on September 16, 1944 to Norman (Stub) and Jean (Pelland) Walls.
Sherry graduated from Falls High School in the spring of 1962 and, just shy of her 18th birthday, she married Robert (Bob) Misner on August 18, 1962 in International Falls. They lived in Duluth, MN while Bob finished college at UMD. Bob and Sherry returned home shortly after their daughter Pam was born in 1965 and bought a house in Ranier, MN. Sherry loved their new home and would often tell people how excited she was to have a “drive-in garage”. The initial confusion on the listener’s face would eventually give way to laughter when Bob would explain that she actually meant “attached garage”. Sherry gave birth to their son Bobby in 1967 and in 1976 they made their final move back to International Falls.
Apart from working at Sears for a short time around 1980, Sherry was a life-long homemaker who enjoyed playing cards, picking blueberries, shopping, and talking on the phone…even to wrong numbers. For Sherry, strangers were only friends she hadn’t met yet.
Over the years, Sherry was an avid house remodeler…one time surprising Bob by removing a wall while he was at work. She loved color coordinating everything in her home, right down to the white and gold VCR that perfectly matched the TV and living room tables. No detail was too small to escape her keen eyes. Fortunately for Sherry, she married a wonderful man who enjoyed spoiling her to the very end.
Most of all, Sherry loved spending time with her family and friends, laughing and sharing stories over endless cups of coffee. Her sense of humor was contagious and she made a lasting impression on everyone she met. Sherry had a way of turning ordinary conversations into hilarious stories…a collection of special memories that her family fondly refers to as “Sherryisms”. In recent years, Sherry found comfort in watching her favorite TV shows while enjoying her French donuts, Junior Mints, and Tollhouse crackers.
Sherry was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was so happy to have her children and their families living close by. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was simply known as “Granny”…the small, sassy, funny woman who loved them dearly and was always there with hugs and kisses…and fun-sized candy bars.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Jean Walls and her brothers Bernie Walls, Danny Walls, and Tom Walls.
Sherry is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bob Misner; children Pam (Dave) Tomevi and Bob (Michelle) Misner; grandchildren Amara Tomevi (Michael Westom), Ryan Tomevi, Michael (Jynni) Misner, Shawna (Logan) Veillieux, and Emma Misner; great-grandchildren Mason Marty, James Marty, and newborn Gianna Misner; sisters Rita Buchholz and Wendy Walls; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Special thanks to Sherry’s caregiver “Reba” (Marie Jensen) for her care, compassion, and friendship during these last few months.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Interment will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in International Falls.
